Morgan & Michael ~ A Rainy Delay! 5.30.10 ~ Nashville Wedding Photographer

June 17, 2010

Sometimes you gotta wait it out. And that’s just what we did as the rain fell at Cedarwood for Morgan and Michael’s big day. Luckily, M+M had decided long ago to have a “first sight” meeting before the ceremony so we could do many of the photos beforehand. Because soon after we wrapped the wedding party photos, the rain came…and came…and came! I think the ceremony ended up starting about an hour and a half later than planned, but the Cedarwood staff just did a switcheroo and had the cocktail hour before the ceremony while we all waited for the storm to pass. It was great!
I love to see a couple roll with it and M+M did just that. And when the sun returned, they were hubby and wifey. =0)

HUGE thanks to planners Christa Harris and Linda Wright at Cedarwood!

Morgan provided us the vendor info and answers to our favorite questions:

Gown: Mon Cheri dress bought at Bridals By Elena in Severna Park, MD

Florist: Cedarwood Florist (on-site)

Hairdresser and Make up, name of salon:  Sara Andrick (of Relache Salon– before the flood, that is!)

The most memorable moment of your wedding day: “This Kiss After the Vows – Perfect!”

Ladies: Floor length gowns in ocean blue stretch charmuese by the Dessy Group

Tux Rental: Mens Warehouse

Cake/Bakery: PattyCakes (Organized Through Cedarwood)

Caterer: A Dream Come True Catering

I love this shot of Morgan and her dad dancing. So sweet!

Yeah, so I like to play with light and exposure.

“To the windooooooow, to the WALL!” (I don’t remember if that was the actual song, but it looks like it works!)

Here is some more vendor info and Morgan’s suggestions and advice for future brides:

We used Gray Line Nashville for transportation from the hotel to Cedarwood for our guests staying in the main hotel. They were perfectly professional and most importantly, ON TIME.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Opryland/Airport. They were really great with helping us after our initial wedding hotel got flooded!

Our ceremony music was played by Rob Higginbotham. He learned an acoustic version of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” for our bridesmaids/groomsmen processional!

Your favorite and least favorite part of planning:
FAVORITE: We loved working with the professionals that we hired! We know that the folks at Cedarwood live, eat, and breathe weddings every weekend. It’s what makes them PROS and so good at what they do. In three and a half hours, we essentially planned the whole shindig from cake napkins to menu selections to decor to invitations with NO drama. They paid attention to so many details that we would have never been able to capture while stressing to plan a wedding on my own states away. Even better, they made our wedding special for us, so there was NO cookie cutter feel!
Least Favorite: That the whole party goes by SO quickly once it’s here!

The most memorable moment of your wedding day:
This Kiss After the Vows – Perfect!

What you would change, if anything:
We would have REMEMBERED the “guest book” which was a large engagement photo of us that we had framed and matted for our guests to sign. No we don’t have a true record of everyone who attended, sad face.

Where your budget was best spent:
Photography and Flowers!

Any advice for future brides:
Don’t be afraid to say “no” to all of the gracious offers of help/advice/assistance in your planning adventures if you don’t need them. It’s not an indication that you’re unappreciative.

Thanks guys! It’s been a pleasure getting to know you both. I hope the Dominican Republic was wonderfully restful and D.C. treats you both well! xoxo

Jade & Nathan ~ 5.22.10 ~ Nashville Wedding Photography

June 9, 2010

Twas a HOT day in Hohenwald when Jade and Nathan tied the knot. Our plans for outdoor photos in the field at their reception site were thwarted by the big flood–the road to the field had been washed away! Luckily Jade’s aunt hosted the reception in a tent at her home and all was well and beautifully decorated, I must say.

I will share Jade and Nathan’s vendors and reviews below the appropriate photos. It’s always helpful for other brides to hear who was great and who was not so great to work with!

I had a great time at this wedding! Everyone was so happy and fun. Thanks, J+N!

Gown:  “Petals & Lace (Nashville) –Pronovias, loved my gown and would not have traded it for any other…however this shop does not cater to brides.  My experiences there over the last 9 months leads me to believe it is much more a pageant/prom dress shop than anything else.  I would not recommend brides shopping there…or if you find a dress you love there go look for it somewhere else that understands the stress and importance of timeliness for the perfect bridal gown.”

Bridesmaids gowns:  “Arzelles -After Six  I choose After Six because of the style and the designer carried both a pink and orange I loved which was tricky!  Ideally all maids dresses would be purchased where the bride’s dress is however Petals & Lace did not carry After Six so I went to Nashville’s favorite and most well known Bridal Shop, Arzelles

Hairdresser:  “Lori Smith –Hair Ect… Hohenwald, Tennessee. Had a great time getting ready in a beautiful environment.  The owners fixed a table for snacks and drinks and we even commanded the music throughout our time there.”

I love Jade’s face when she sees her gift from Tiffany & Co.! (Good job, Nathan!)

Jade wanted a photo of three generations–love it!

Reception Location:  My Aunt and Uncle’s front lawn!  Thanks Aunt Gypsy Jo and Uncle Gary!

Cake:  “Chad Everett owner of The cake was exactly what I asked for and tasted as great as it looked!  I would definitely recommend C. W . Everett Cake Co. out of Hohenwald, TN.”

Caterer:  “Ribbons of Chocolate.   owner/contact Pam Hogancamp 615-449-4368 or 931-334-9639 (cell) super friendly, excellent service, received tons of compliments on the food from our guests, very flexible on payment schedule and budget friendly! Would choose Ribbons again and again!”

Rentals:  “All tables (including bars), basic linens (white) and chairs along with a 40 x 80 pole tent were rented from The Event Line , Contact Kasey Hellyer 770-544-9266 ext 2″

Entertainment:  “The Joel Brown Band…located out of Clarksville TN.”

How’s this for a grand exit? Wow!

Tux Rental:  “Men’s Warehouse.  Wonderful number of locations however you must order in person and pay in person can not order or pay over the phone…which seems crazy but we had several out of state groomsmen so it was the best option for our guys.”

Your favorite and least favorite part of planning?
“Favorite-choosing gifts/favors for hostess and bridal party….least favorite-paying for all those gifts! is the best place to get personalized gifts and favors…I got the stickers for our honey jars from MAUpromos, the font itself was set up by a separate vendor jaimelody and the adorable charms on all my bridesmaid’s bouquets were from spaina and the handkerchiefs shown are from ccbgknikolick. Also a big hit was personalized stamps which I gave to my husband’s aunts for hosting a bridal tea for me…it was a more expensive hostess gift than some of the others I gave but the party they threw was expensive as well…anyways everyone loved them I order the stamps from which like all other vendors listed above I found on”

The most memorable moment of your wedding day?
“There are so many but probably when my groom shoved a gift in my hand when we were standing with a door between us…needless to say I was surprised by the look on my face.”

What you would change, if anything?

Where your budget was best spent?
“Photography of course! It’s all you have left after the I-do’s and memories! For real though, we opted to spend a bit outside our budget and forgo a videographer and we are so glad we did. I have friends who did not LOVE there wedding day photos and I can’t imagine that. I feel so lucky to have found someone who really captured the moment of our wedding.”

Any advice for future brides?
“Ask for more than one bustle button to be sewn to your dress… I could have used a spare after my husband stepped on it 5 mins into our reception! And turn your cell phone off (if you are not too much of a control freak!) and allow questions to go through someone else in your bridal party other than you so you don’t miss the magic of the day on trivial details.”

Stephanie & Spencer ~ 5.15.10 ~ Knoxville Wedding Photography

June 7, 2010

The weather was perfect for Stephanie and Spencer’s wedding and reception at Salem Baptist Church in Halls. The bride & groom’s session after the reception, however, was a different story! S&S built an extra hour into their day for off-site photos of the two of them (which I LOVE!!). About halfway through our fun, the bottom dropped out!

Luckily, I just happened to have a bright pink umbrella to match Steph’s bouquet in my car. How’s that for a well prepared photographer?

I love a bright pink and orange color scheme. So pretty! And the food and cake looked amazing thanks to B&G All Occasion Catering.

The Culiats ~ Knoxville Family Photography

June 7, 2010

The Culiats are some of my most favorite people on earth. And since I don’t get to shoot many family sessions, I jumped at the chance when I got a call from Mrs. C. They have a lovely home in Oak Ridge, so we used their comfy surroundings for our session.

Thanks for letting me photograph you guys! And if you wake up to loud noises in your garage and find one of your KILLER BMW’s missing…it wasn’t me.

We picked the perfect day when family members from all over the world had just arrived. An extended family shot is a must!!

Erin & James’ wedding in the flood! 5.1.10 Nashville Wedding Photography

June 6, 2010

Some couples worry about rain on their wedding day, especially when the ceremony is planned for outdoors. Well…how to you plan around a wedding in the midst of the great Nashville flood of 2010? Here’s how: You just do it!
Erin & James were total troopers! Their outdoor location by the waterfall at The Baber House at Kennesaw Farms was tented and the rest of the night’s party was kept indoors. No amount of road closures, wind, lightning, or flooding was going to keep this couple’s big day from happening.

However, I won’t lie…the drive home that night was terrifying!

Here are a few shots from the rainy day =)
